Blueberry Power

To earn your Blueberry Power Patch, you must complete at least four requirements.

1. The blueberry is the official state fruit of New Jersey and the "Blueberry Capitol of the World" is a town located near us at Hammonton, NJ. Read about how blueberries came to be a local crop. **Extra credit: What does catsup have in common with blueberries?
2. Blueberries are a "Power fruit". What are some of the good nutritional qualities of blueberries? Make a snack or dish using blueberries and try it.
3. Learn some important blueberry facts:
"July is National Blueberry Month in the US
"The blueberry muffin is the official muffin of Minnesota and the most popular muffin in the U.S.
"A single bush can produce as many as 6,000 berries a year.
"The blueberry is one of three native fruits to North America. (Concord grapes and cranberries are the others!)
4. Visit a local blueberry farm, attend a blueberry festival, take a tour of a blueberry farm or plant a blueberry bush.
5. Fill a cup with blueberries. Have a contest to see who can guess closest to the correct number of blueberries. Divide the blueberries equally among you and enjoy a snack.
