Signing IPP To earn this IPP you must complete 8activities. The starred activities are required.
1.* Learn about the origin/ history of the American Manual Alphabet and American Sign Language.
2.* Be able to explain the difference between the following types of manual languages: American Signed Language
Signed English
Signed Exact English
3.* Learn the American Manual Alphabet and understand its role in manual communication. Practice finger spelling with a partner until you can fluently spell your name, the town in which you live, and the names of five friends.
4.* Learn the Girl Scout Promise or Girl Scout Law in sign language. Share this with a group.
5.* Do a related service project, eg: volunteer at a school where deaf childern are taught or volunteer to hold an activitiy time for deaf children
6. Learn about operating a TTD or TTY and place at least one phone call using same.
7. Choose a category (e.g. relatives, animals, foods etc.) and using ASL, be able to sign at least ten words from your chosen category.
8. Plan a signed ceremony, e.g., Flag ceremony including the Pledge of Allegiance, Girl Scout Promise, and song.
9. Learn three simple songs in ASL and teach them to a group.
10. Learn to count usnig ASL.
11. Read a book about someone who is deaf or who has a hearing problem.
12. Visit with someone who is deaf. Plan some questions to ask before the visit.
13. Plan a simple signed conversation.
14. Keep a scrapbook about situations involving the deaf community, e.g., newspaper articles, stories, new advances. Share this with a group.
15. Take a short trip wearing earplugs. Take a friend for safety. Then reverse roles. Share what you learned.
